A 0.6-gain screen reflects less peak light toward the viewer than a 1.0-gain reference surface. That is not automatically a weakness: in a UST ALR screen, lower gain can be part of a contrast-focused optical design.
Gain is a directional brightness measurement
A gain value compares the brightness reflected in a reference direction with a standard diffuse surface. It does not tell you color accuracy, black level, ambient-light rejection or viewing-angle behavior by itself.
Why 0.6 can make sense for UST ALR
The Black Series uses a 0.6-gain specification alongside a lenticular ALR structure. The screen is trying to suppress stray room light and redirect useful projector light rather than simply reflect everything. That can improve perceived contrast in ambient light.
Why 150 inches raises the stakes
The bigger the image, the more area the projector must illuminate. A 150-inch 16:9 image is 2.25 times the area of a 100-inch image, so the same projector produces fewer lumens per square foot at the screen. If you choose a low-gain surface, make sure your projector has enough brightness for your target room conditions.
